Spice Project – Digitalization and Coding of Flight Procedures in Romania

As part of the modernization of national aeronautical procedures, CGX AME contributed to the SPICE project in Romania, aiming to digitalize and code flight procedures for ROMATSA, the national air navigation service provider.

Context and Challenges

ROMATSA must ensure the availability and reliability of flight procedures to guarantee safe and efficient national air traffic operations.

The digitalization and standardization of SID, STAR, and Approach procedures — including both conventional navigation and PBN — represent a significant technical challenge.

The SPICE project aims to deliver a digital database compliant with international standards, enabling easier management and updating of procedures.
